GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper) is a naturally occurring copper-binding peptide. It is not FDA-approved for any use and is not on FDA's 503A bulk drug substances list. FDA's list of nominated substances, updated May 14, 2026, places "GHK-Cu (except for injectable routes of administration)" in Category 1: substances under evaluation, which pharmacies may compound with under FDA's interim enforcement policy while the review is pending. The nomination for injectable GHK-Cu was withdrawn, so an injection has no such footing. FDA has said it intends to consult its Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee about GHK-Cu by the end of February 2027, so this status can change.

Who Is Eligible for Compounded GHK-Cu (Copper Peptide)?

  • A valid prescription from a licensed U.S. healthcare provider is required.
  • Non-injectable preparations only: creams, serums, gels, sprays and similar forms. FDA's Category 1 listing does not cover injectable GHK-Cu.
  • Prescribers most often request GHK-Cu for skin, scalp and wound-care preparations.
