About Diazepam Vaginal Suppository
Vaginal diazepam suppositories, usually 5 mg or 10 mg, are compounded for pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, vaginismus and pelvic pain. Placed vaginally, the drug acts on the local pelvic floor muscles with lower blood levels and less sedation than oral diazepam. No commercial vaginal diazepam exists, so this is a compounded-only preparation, sometimes combined with baclofen. Diazepam is a Schedule IV controlled substance, so the pharmacy must be licensed to ship controlled medications to the patient's state, and a prescription from the treating clinician — often a pelvic floor physical therapy program's physician — is required.
