How Much Does Compounded Oxytocin Cost? (2026 Price Guide)

Oxytocin exists as an FDA-approved injection used in obstetric settings. That is not what patients are price-shopping when they come to us. Almost every compounded oxytocin request we see is for a nasal spray or a troche — forms that have no commercial equivalent in the United States.

Why oxytocin gets compounded

The approved product is a sterile injection for hospital use. There is no FDA-approved intranasal or sublingual oxytocin in the U.S., so a prescriber who wants those forms has to write them to a compounding pharmacy.

That distinction matters for price comparison: you cannot benchmark a compounded nasal spray against the cost of the commercial injection. They are different products for different uses.

Those are not two different markets; they are two ways of quoting the same thing. Always divide to cost per dose before comparing. A $9 per-troche quote and a $75 package quote can describe an identical month.

What affects the price

Form. Nasal sprays are priced by total volume and concentration; troches by count and strength. They are not directly comparable.

Concentration. Stated in units or micrograms depending on the prescription. This has to be explicit or you will get quotes you cannot line up.

Total quantity. Larger fills lower cost per dose, subject to the beyond-use date.

Storage. Oxytocin preparations often require refrigeration. Ask how it ships and whether cold-pack shipping is included or added.

Shipping and minimums. On a single small bottle, a flat shipping fee is a meaningful share of the total.

What to check before comparing

Beyond-use date and storage. A compounded peptide preparation has a defined shelf life, and refrigeration requirements affect whether a larger quantity is actually good value.

Concentration on every quote. Without it, the numbers are not comparable.

Whether the sprayer or applicator is included. Some nasal spray quotes include the delivery bottle and some assume you have one.

Prescription requirements

Oxytocin is prescription-only. A licensed U.S. compounding pharmacy cannot dispense it without a valid prescription from a licensed prescriber, and any seller shipping it without one is not legitimate.
