PDE5 Inhibitor Drug Class

PDE5 (phosphodiesterase type 5) inhibitors relax smooth muscle and increase blood flow by blocking the PDE5 enzyme. While associated with erectile dysfunction, compounded PDE5 inhibitors are also used for pulmonary hypertension, female sexual dysfunction, and Raynaud's phenomenon.

How It Works

PDE5 inhibitors block the breakdown of cGMP in smooth muscle cells. Elevated cGMP causes vasodilation and smooth muscle relaxation in vascular and erectile tissues, increasing blood flow on demand.
