Chronic Sinusitis / Nasal Polyps
Long-lasting sinus inflammation and nasal polyps managed with compounded medicated nasal irrigations — steroid, antibiotic, and antifungal rinses that reach where sprays cannot.
About Chronic Sinusitis
Chronic rhinosinusitis is sinus inflammation lasting twelve weeks or longer, with or without nasal polyps, and it is one of the most common reasons ENTs turn to compounding: national survey data published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association found sinus and nasal preparations among the leading categories of compounded prescriptions. Standard steroid sprays deposit medication in the front of the nose, but a compounded high-volume irrigation — most commonly budesonide dissolved in saline — carries medication into the sinus cavities themselves, which is especially effective after endoscopic sinus surgery has opened the passages. For culture-positive infections that resist oral antibiotics, prescribers add culture-directed ingredients such as mupirocin for staph. These medicated rinses are patient-specific compounds prepared per prescription by a licensed compounding pharmacy.
