Antioxidant / Injectable Nutrient Drug Class

Injectable antioxidants deliver therapeutic doses of free-radical scavenging compounds directly into the bloodstream, bypassing poor oral bioavailability. Compounded glutathione, high-dose vitamin C, and alpha-lipoic acid are cornerstone therapies in integrative and functional medicine.

How It Works

Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant, neutralizing reactive oxygen species and regenerating vitamins C and E. IV vitamin C at pharmacological doses acts as a pro-oxidant in cancer cells while protecting normal tissue. Alpha-lipoic acid regenerates glutathione and chelates heavy metals.

Why Compounded?

Pharmaceutical-grade injectable glutathione, high-dose IV vitamin C (25–75g), alpha-lipoic acid infusions, and Meyer's Cocktail formulations all require compounding. Oral glutathione has poor bioavailability and does not achieve therapeutic tissue levels.

Common Uses

  • Detoxification and heavy metal support
  • Chronic illness and fatigue
  • Skin lightening and brightening (glutathione)
  • Cancer adjunct therapy (high-dose vitamin C)
  • Parkinson's disease support
  • MCAS and oxidative stress
  • Athletic recovery

Regulatory & Safety Notes

Injectable glutathione and high-dose vitamin C are compounded under 503A for patient-specific prescriptions. IV nutrient therapy should be administered by licensed healthcare professionals. The FDA requires sterility testing for all injectable compounds. Patients should verify pharmacy accreditation (PCAB) before use.
