How it works

Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant — a tripeptide (glycine, cysteine, glutamine) that neutralizes free radicals, regenerates vitamins C and E, supports liver phase II detoxification, regulates immune function, and maintains mitochondrial integrity.

Why compounded?

Oral glutathione is poorly absorbed and largely destroyed in the GI tract. Injectable compounded glutathione bypasses this limitation, delivering the active tripeptide directly into circulation. No commercial injectable glutathione product exists in the US, making compounding the only route for parenteral administration.

What is

Glutathione (Injectable)

?

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide antioxidant produced in every cell of the body, serving as the primary endogenous defense against oxidative stress. It plays central roles in free radical neutralization, heavy metal detoxification, immune modulation, mitochondrial protection, and the recycling of other antioxidants (vitamins C and E).

Glutathione levels decline with age, chronic illness, environmental toxin exposure, and nutrient deficiencies. Depletion is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's, Alzheimer's), liver disease, diabetes complications, chronic fatigue, and immune dysfunction.

Injectable compounded glutathione is widely used in functional medicine clinics, IV therapy programs, and by integrative practitioners for detoxification protocols, neurological support, skin brightening (melanin inhibition), and general antioxidant optimization.

How

Glutathione (Injectable)

Works

Free Radical Scavenging
Glutathione directly neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS), donating electrons to unstable free radicals and preventing oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and DNA.

Phase II Liver Detoxification
Glutathione conjugates with toxins, drugs, and heavy metals in the liver via glutathione S-transferase enzymes, making them water-soluble for urinary or biliary excretion.

Tyrosinase Inhibition (Skin)
Glutathione inhibits tyrosinase — the rate-limiting enzyme in melanin synthesis — producing skin lightening/brightening effects with regular IV administration. This is a widely sought cosmetic application.

Neurological Protection
In the brain, glutathione protects dopaminergic neurons from oxidative damage. IV glutathione is used adjunctively in Parkinson's disease to reduce symptoms and slow neurodegeneration.

Primary Uses

Detoxification: Heavy metal detox, environmental toxin clearance, liver support

Anti-aging / Longevity: Oxidative stress reduction, mitochondrial protection, cellular repair

Neurological: Parkinson's disease adjunct, cognitive protection, MS support

Skin: Skin brightening, hyperpigmentation reduction, anti-aging

Immune Support: Chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, immune optimization

Other Applications

Dosing Information

⚠️ Note: Dosing should be determined by your prescriber. The information below is general guidance only.

Typical Adult Dosing

IV push: 600–2400mg administered slowly over 5–15 minutes in clinic

IV infusion: 600–3000mg in saline over 30–60 minutes

IM injection: 200–600mg 2–3x per week

SubQ: 200–400mg daily or as directed

Frequency varies by indication — detox protocols may require daily dosing initially; maintenance can be weekly.

Common (generally very well tolerated):

  • Injection site discomfort
  • Transient skin flushing or warmth during IV

Rare:

  • Allergic reaction (rare but possible)
  • Zinc depletion with very long-term high-dose use
  • Theoretical reduction in melanin production (skin lightening may be unwanted)
