Prevents mast cells from degranulating — stopping the release of histamine, leukotrienes, and other inflammatory mediators before they trigger symptoms.
Blocks histamine H1 receptors directly at target tissues — a second line of action that manages symptoms even when some mediator release occurs.
Compounded cyclosporine oral solution gives cats precise weight-based dosing for immune-mediated skin conditions and inflammatory disease — in a flavored liquid that's easier to administer than capsules.

Cyclosporine suppresses T-lymphocyte activation and cytokine release, modulating the immune response.
Commercial cyclosporine products for cats may require dose adjustments not available in standard strengths. Compounding allows precise dosing in flavored liquid form for easier administration.
Cyclosporine is an immunomodulatory drug used in cats to treat atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic granuloma complex, pemphigus foliaceus, and other immune-mediated conditions. The commercial product (Atopica for Cats) is available, but compounded oral solutions offer flexibility in dosing concentrations and flavoring that can be important for feline patients.
Compounding allows pharmacists to prepare cyclosporine at concentrations tailored to a cat's exact weight, reducing the need to estimate doses from capsule sizes. Flavored formulations also make administration significantly easier in cats that resist capsule administration.
Cyclosporine selectively inhibits calcineurin, a phosphatase required for the activation of T-lymphocytes. By blocking calcineurin, cyclosporine prevents the transcription of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and other cytokines that drive the immune response, reducing inflammation and immune-mediated tissue damage.
Unlike corticosteroids, cyclosporine's immunosuppressive effect is relatively selective for T-cells, which reduces the risk of broad metabolic side effects with long-term use.
Cyclosporine is used in cats for atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic granuloma complex, pemphigus foliaceus, inflammatory bowel disease (as an adjunct), and other immune-mediated dermatologic conditions. It is considered a steroid-sparing option for cats requiring long-term immunomodulation.

⚠️ Dosing should be determined by your prescriber. The information below is general guidance only.
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite, particularly when starting therapy. These often resolve with time or dose adjustment. Administering with a small amount of food can help reduce GI upset.
Less common but more serious effects include gingival hyperplasia (overgrowth of gum tissue) with prolonged use, and increased susceptibility to infections. Cats should be tested for FeLV/FIV and Toxoplasma before starting therapy.
