Gonadotropin / Peptide Hormone Drug Class

Gonadotropins are hormones that stimulate gonadal function — primarily LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). Compounded HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) mimics LH and is widely used in male hormone optimization and fertility protocols.

How It Works

HCG binds to LH receptors on Leydig cells in the testes, stimulating testosterone production and maintaining testicular size during TRT. In women, it triggers ovulation by mimicking the LH surge. Kisspeptin stimulates GnRH release to restore the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.

Why Compounded?

Commercial HCG (Pregnyl, Novarel) requires refrigeration and comes in fixed doses. Compounded HCG offers customized doses, alternative delivery (subcutaneous, intranasal), and combination protocols. Kisspeptin is only available through compounding.

Regulatory & Safety Notes

FDA-approved HCG products are available commercially. Compounded HCG injections are 503A patient-specific preparations. The FDA restricted compounded HCG for weight loss in 2020, but it remains legally compounded for fertility and hormone optimization indications. Gonadorelin is an alternative GnRH peptide used in hormone optimization that is available through compounding.
